Department of Revenue Warns of Fraudsters Targeting Businesses
The State Department of Revenue announced that Pennsylvania business owners are receiving fraudulent letters in the mail purporting to be from Revenue and directing them to turn over accounting records. The goal of the scam is to make the recipient believe that they are being investigated and convince them to turn over sensitive information.
The department noted that the counterfeit notice does not include a return address, which is on all department correspondence. The fraudulent notices also address the recipient as “Dear Business Owner.” The department typically addresses the business owner or business by name.
If your business receives such a notice, you can research the issue at revenue.pa.gov or reach out to the department using its Online Customer Service Center.
