Back to School & School Bus Safety

It’s time to go back to school already and that means school buses are on the roads again.

Pennsylvania law requires motorists to stop at least 10 feet away from school buses when their red lights are flashing and their stop arm is extended.  Motorists following or traveling alongside a school bus must also stop until the red lights have stopped flashing, the stop arm is withdrawn, and all children have reached safety.  Read more about school bus safety here.

Penalties for failure to obey school bus safety laws can result in a $250 fine, five points on a driving record and a 60-day license suspension.

Potential Board of Supervisor Vacancy

Due to the resignation of Supervisor Ray Weldie effective September 10, 2023, the Board of Supervisors is asking anyone interested in becoming a Supervisor to submit a Letter of Intent along with a resumé to the Township Manager by no later than the close of business (5 PM) on Monday, August 28, 2023.  Submissions can be made in person at the Township Administration Building or email administration@lstwp.org.

Candidates should be prepared to be interviewed by the Board of Supervisors at their next meeting, which is open to the public, on September 13, 2023 beginning at 6:30 PM.  You must be able to attend the interview session to be considered for the position.  The Board of Supervisors may name a replacement and that person could possibly be sworn in at the Board of Supervisors meeting held on Wednesday, September 13, 2023.
